Introduction
At Altera Japan, Ltd. (“we,” “our” or the “Company”), we respect your privacy. We have developed and provided this Privacy Policy to inform you of our practices and policies regarding the collection, use, maintenance, and disclosure of your personal data and information.
1. What Information We Collect About You
If you register for or enroll in a program or service through our website, make purchases of our products and services, respond to a request for information, fill out our surveys or questionnaires, phone us or send us e-mail or other correspondence, you will be providing us with personally identifiable information.In the course of your relationship with our company, we may have collected or may collect such Personal Information such as your name, gender, job title, employer, business unit/department, home and business addresses, home and business phone numbers, fax number, cell phone numbers, email addresses, enrollment, purchase and account history, correspondence history, billing and payment information, shipping information, event participation history and information collected from surveys (“Personal Information”).In addition, we collect data and information saved in “cookies” when you enroll in a program or service through our website.
"Cookies" are small data files that are written to and stored on your hard drive when you visit a web site. They do not read files on your hard drive. Our cookies do not track user movement once you leave our web site, except for noting your destination address.Most web browsers allow the user to be notified upon the proposed installation of a cookie and the user can then decline the cookie. Even if you decline the cookie, you may continue to use our entire web site. 2. For Which Purposes We Use Information About You
(a) Purposes of Use
Personal Information may be used to send you announcements of new products, new services, technical support, product updates, events, tradeshows, conferences, press announcements, netseminars, renewal notices and promotional information, as well as to provide the services or goods that you request and give you better customer service and to handle billing and claims. We may also use cookies to personalize a user’s experience of our web site and to make it easier for users to complete forms online.
We share this personal information with the Company’s parent company, subsidiaries, affiliated companies and branch offices (“Affiliates”), our third-party business partners, sales representatives and distributors (collectively, "Partners"), third-party service companies (“Service Companies”), in order to achieve the aforementioned purposes of use (see the below paragraphs in this section).
The Company will not use Personal Information for any other purpose incompatible with the purposes outlined in this section, unless such use is authorized or required by applicable law.

We share Personal Information with our Affiliates (see Affiliates link) that will jointly use this information for the purposes of use provided above.The Company is the party responsible for the management of the jointly used Personal Information.
(c) Partners
We may share Personal Information with our Partners, including our distributors Altima Corporation and Elsena, who provide product related support services. The items of personal information that are or may be provided to our Partners are:all Personal Information, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, purchase and account history, correspondence history, billing information, shipping information, event participation history and information collected from surveys. The methods used to share this information with Partners may be by direct person-to-person contact, telephone, facsimile, mail, email or internet/intranet website.Customers may request that their Personal Information cease being provided to our Partners at any time. Please note, however, that in the event that such request is made, our Partners may not be able to provide you with technical support and other services relating to our products.(Please refer to below Section 6. Requests of Disclosure, Modification and Deletion of Personal Information, and Requests to Cease Providing to Partners).
(d) Delegatees
Moreover, we rely on Service Companies to provide certain services (e.g., shipping, credit card billing) for which it is necessary to provide the Personal Information to achieve the purposes of use.
3. Links to Third-Party Web Sites
Through our web pages, you may connect to third parties' web sites via hyperlinks, and the connections may or may not be obvious. We are not responsible for the collection, use, maintenance, sharing, or disclosure of data and information by such third parties. We encourage our users to be aware of the varied privacy policies of web sites that they visit.
4. Required Disclosures of Personal Information
In addition to disclosures to our Affiliates, Partners, and Service Companies, and regardless of anything in this Privacy Policy to the contrary, we may disclose Personal Information, with or without prior notice to you, when we believe that the law requires or permits it, in response to subpoenas or at the demand of governmental agencies, to protect our systems or business, to protect other visitors to the web site, or to respond to an emergency. If you partake, or we reasonably suspect you of partaking in any illegal activity, we may also disclose your Personal Information, even without a subpoena, warrant or court order. We may also make disclosures of your Personal Information with your affirmative consent.
5. Security of Personal Information
The Company will take the appropriate measures to protect Personal Information consistent with applicable law regarding the protection of personal information.
For all e-commerce transactions, we use industry-standard commercial encryption technology to protect the data and information that you transmit to us via our web site. Although this technology is not flawless, we believe that it provides reasonable protection for your data and information. We will endeavor to update our protective devices as encryption technology develops further.
Once received, Personal Information is protected from outside the Company by "firewalls," and access within the Company is generally limited to the sales, marketing, and information technology departments. We also seek to require our Affiliates and Service Companies to exercise reasonable efforts to maintain the confidentiality of your information.
6. Requests of Disclosure, Modification and Deletion of Personal Information, and Requests to Cease Providing to Partners
You may request disclosure of the Personal Information that we have and request that inaccurate information be corrected, amended, added, or, where appropriate, deleted.Please note that we may not disclose, amend or delete Personal Information where consistent with applicable law. We will endeavor to comply with your request as soon as reasonably possible. To protect your confidentiality, we can only respond to such requests to the e-mail address that you have registered or otherwise provided to us. In any event, our back-up files will maintain copies of your Personal Information. We reserve the right to contact former customers or users of the web site from time to time for the purposes of use described in the section regarding Personal Information.
In addition, you may request that your Personal Information cease being provided to our Partners at any time by sending an e-mail to privacy@altera.com, provided that you indicate to us that you no longer wish to receive the technical support services provided by our Partners.
You may also request that the Company cease the use of your Personal Information on the grounds that such personal information was acquired by unjust means or used in violation of law.
7. Assignment
We reserve the right to transfer any and all information that we collect from our visitors to a third party in the event of a merger, company spin-off or split-up, sale of substantially all of our assets, or transfer of the business to such third party.
8. Changes to this Privacy Policy
The Company may change this policy in whole or in part at any time, provided, however, that, if the purpose of use of the Personal Information is to be changed to an extent beyond that which is necessary to achieve the original purpose of use, we will provide notice regarding such notice and obtain your consent.
